چکیده

A large-scale, real-world application of Evolutionary MultiCriterion Optimization (EMO) is reported in this paper. The Multidisciplinary Design Optimization among aerodynamics, structures and aeroelasticity for the wing of a transonic regional jet aircraft has been performed using high-fidelity models. An Euler/Navier-Stokes (N-S) Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) solver is employed for the aerodynamic evaluation. The NASTRAN, a commercial software, is coupled with a CFD solver for the structural and aeroelastic evaluations. Adaptive Range Multi-Objective Genetic Algorithm is employed as an optimizer. The objective functions are minimizations of block fuel and maximum takeoff weight in addition to difference in the drag between transonic and subsonic flight conditions. As a result, nine non-dominated solutions have been generated. They are used for tradeoff analysis among three objectives. One solution is found to have one percent improvement in the block fuel compared to the original geometry designed in the conventional manner. All the solutions evaluated during the evolution are analyzed by Self-Organizing Map to extract key features of the design space.

Multifidelity Design Optimization of Low-Boom Supersonic Jets

The practical use of high-fidelity multidisciplinary optimization techniques in low-boom supersonic business-jet designs has been limited because of the high computational cost associated with computational fluid dynamics-based evaluations of both the performance and the loudness of the ground boom of the aircraft. This is particularly true of designs that involve the sonic boom loudness as eit...

Aero-structural Wing Design Optimization Using High-fidelity Sensitivity Analysis

This paper develops and implements a framework for the computation of coupled aero-structural sensitivities which are required for the design of aircraft where aeroelastic interactions are significant. All aero-structural sensitivities are computed using high-fidelity models of both the aerodynamics and the structure of the wing with a coupled-adjoint approach that uses single discipline sensit...

Topology Optimisation: Increasing the Speed and Reliability of Design

In this paper, topology optimisation is applied to the design of the rear fuselage of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). A comparison is drawn between the performance of a design created through evolutionary structural optimisation (ESO) and a baseline design modelled on a manually designed and successfully flow fuselage geometry, for different wing shapes. The loading for each wing shape is det...
